Drivers trying to get through Ruddington village centre today faced unexpected delays and diversions – after emergency gas work shut Wilford Road at Dutton’s Hill at around 3pm*.
As queues formed around the closure, Nottingham City Transport was forced to divert its Navy 3 service away from Ruddington village centre – leaving passengers stranded at bus stops. Traffic chaos has also been reported along St Mary’s Crescent – as drivers attempted to find their own diversionary route via St John’s Road and the Rufford Road estate.
There’s now an important update to this news story >>HERE<<.
Originally it was planned that two-way traffic signals would suffice whilst Cadent carried out gas work on Wilford Road. However today (Wed 17th Nov) the busy route was suddenly shut without notice on safety grounds – it’s thought due to the gas leak being worse than anticipated. *It’s now been revealed the inconvenience for motorists, bus users and residents is set to continue until Monday 22nd November with Dutton’s Hill remaining closed whilst repairs are carried out there. Diversions are now being signed locally – though bizarrely with one of the “Road Closed” signs as far back as Wilford Industrial Estate, causing confusion for those only wishing to reach the northern end of Ruddington and Clifton Road, which remains open.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Severn Trent has revealed that the water main it has just repaired on Loughborough Road has begun leaking again – so the temporary traffic lights will now remain there until this Sunday, 21st November 2021 for them to have another go!**
These are just the latest in a catalogue of disruptive highway work around our village this year – with more still to come. As well as further roadworks on High Street there will be a full road closure there on Saturday December 4th for the return of the Ruddington Christmas Street Market.
